About
our Farm |
|
The Loadman family farm is near Leyburn, close to the stunning Yorkshire Dales. The farm is called Unthank Farm, which we believe originates from
Old English and means rustler/squatter; this would have been a rustlers settlement because of the forest and stream nearby.

We have been farming at Unthank Farm since 1939, originally milking cows until the 1960’s when they were replaced with beef cattle. We keep a
small number of lambs for fattening; they are predominately kept on clover/grass leys that are part of the arable rotation.
Crops such as wheat, oats and beans are grown at Unthank Farm; we keep a small amount for feeding to our animals as part of their diet, and the
remainder we sell to organic feed merchants. |

We rely on family to help us during busy periods on the farm; however we are very lucky to have a retired farmer called John who helps us as well.

We are certified with the ‘Soil Association’, this scheme is what recognises us as being Organic, they carry out annual inspections, looking at animal
welfare, records for the livestock and arable sectors of the farm, environmental legislations and codes of practice. |
